This is a rare chance to be part of a new co-housing project in the heart of the South Downs National Park. Heartward is seeking two households to join us as co-founders and help make our vision become a reality.

We are excited to share that two private flats are now available:

  • Lullington View (above) would suit a single person or couple
  • The Lower Annexe can accommodate a couple or family of three and will be modified to create an extra bedroom or office.

These private residences are two of eight at Pleasant Rise Farm in Alfriston, set in 18 acres of outstandingly beautiful land nestled in the South Downs National Park.

Whilst our financial model is designed to provide housing for people from varying socio-economic backgrounds as we grow and develop, at this early stage the project requires capital. This means we require a minimum of £50K loan stock investment from incoming households.

Other things to know about where we are at the moment:

  • Heartward Community is currently transitioning from a limited company to a cooperative. This will be completed by July, when we expect to move onto a mortgage

  • Four households are now living at the farm, whilst two others have residences still needing renovations before moving in

  • We are all giving a few hours a week in time - community building takes a lot of work!

  • We all regularly gather onsite for meetings and to work towards creating a shared community space with shared facilities, such as vehicles, tools, food growing areas and laundry, so that we can invest time in cultivating connection and community

  • Those of us already living on site currently gather for a shared dinner twice a week, as well as plenty of tea breaks!

  • Embedded in the co-op is the foundational principle to provide affordable, low impact community housing in the South-East of England. We want to create a way of living that does not cost the Earth. We are inspired by the One Planet Living® Sustainability Framework.

We are inviting anyone who is interested to register for an open day on Saturday 18 April, to meet us on the farm.  You’ll get to look round the properties, have a tour of the site, and we’ll offer some lunch and a Q&A.

If you feel this could be for you, please send us an email at heartwardcohousing@gmail.com to book yourself a spot at the open day. We can then take it from there.

We are very much looking forward to meeting you to explore potential future collaboration together.
